Timothée Chalamet Knows Exactly How to Grow Out a Buzz Cut

The Oscar nominee (and lifelong New York Knicks fan) has been having a lot of fun with his locks since shaving it for his role in Dune 3

The Oscar nominee (and famous Knicks fan) has been having a lot of fun with his locks since shaving it for his role in Dune 3. Since Timothée Chalamet shaved his indie-rocker mop top in 2025 to commence filming of Dune 3, he has been on the long, eventful journey of growing out his buzz cut. Since production on the film has wrapped the actor has been letting his hair grow out like a chia pet, embracing everything from a Guy Fieri-inspired spiky hairstyle in February to an Oasis-style shag during an appearance at CinemaCon in April.

Now he’s debuted another new hairstyle courtside as the Knicks continue to sweep the 76ers to clinch their place at the NBA Championships. Chalamet, having ditched the 2026 Met Gala for his favorite team’s first semifinals game against Philly, showed off a notably less shaggy hairdo from just a month ago. His new haircut—a throwback to his roots—kept a good amount of length on the top, which he pushed up and off of his forehead for Game 1 but left fringey for Game 2, when he sat alongside “partner” Kylie Jenner. His sides and back were cleaned up with less of a mullet vibe than he had flaunted before, and the natural wavy texture of his hair was also on display, with just a subtle side parting to keep things tidy.

During Timothée Chalamet’s last major outing at CinemaCon, the actor showed off a long and messy shag-style ‘do. Anyone who’s had a buzz cut before will know just how tricky the growing-out process can be. Hair will stick straight out like pine needles on a Christmas tree, growing out every which way as if someone rubbed your dome with a static electricity-charged balloon. And because not every strand of hair grows at the same rate, you’re left with a generally uneven head of hair. Growing out a buzz cut requires more than just letting your hair freak it. Regular maintenance is the key to making sure your buzz cut grows out properly—and that’s exactly what Timmy’s been doing.

As we’ve reported, 2026 appears to be the year of longer hair for men—fewer fades, more boy bangs. Whether that’s where Chalamet’s hair is headed, only the follicular gods know. But rest assured he’ll be courtside the next time the Knicks play.
